"I was never the same after that." "I feel like I'm missing a part of me." We commonly say these things after traumatic events, including breakups. In the core shamanic framework, this is often a sign of soul loss, and can be healed through the practice of soul retrieval. We'll cover:

Causes, signs and symptoms of soul loss
How the concept of soul loss matches up with contemporary Western psychology
How to prepare for soul retrieval
How to work with your non-physical teachers to actually bring back your missing soul parts and regain wholeness.

Ruth's Story:

I co-founded Conscious Girlfriend in 2014, and published Conscious Lesbian Dating & Love in 2015. But prior to that, I had spent many years primarily working in the mystical and shamanic realm.

Conscious Girlfriend focuses on the human parts of all of us, though spirit and soulwork has always flowed through the Academy. At this point in history, it feels right -- in fact, imperative -- to bring these two strands of my life's work together.

My most passionate inquiry has always been about the nature of human pain and damage, what we're actually doing on this planet, and how we can heal. I've always felt like a hybrid being: a body, a human personality, and a soul yoked together, trying to find out how to live a life that is true to all of me.

Now, I'd like to invite you on that journey with me.

These days many people know me as a teacher of lesbian/queer dating, relationships and sex. But I've had three or four careers, and in one of them, I won many awards for my poetry, and taught Creative Writing at the college and graduate level for years.

I had always written poems to find out, as Audre Lorde said, "what I didn't know I knew." I loved teaching writing as a way to help others deepen their relationships with themselves and with the world.

But then, by "chance," I saw a shamanic teacher's course advertised on a lesbian email list, and something clicked -- even though I had never before considered that kind of study. I dove in.

I ended up leaving academia and studying very closely with my shamanic teacher for almost four years. My world-view blew wide open. Then, in 2007, I began "hearing" the voices of some very wise beings. I started conversing with them daily, asking every question I could think of.

I had read channeled books, but I never, ever thought I would be a channel myself. It was exhilarating, and also scary. I wondered if I was going crazy, or if other people would think I was crazy. But I kept going.

It took me five years to write and publish a book based on those conversations: Soul On Earth: A Guide For Living & Loving Your Human Life. Now, the title seems a bit grandiose for a book that has my name on it. But the heart of its wisdom comes from way beyond me.

But it isn't easy being a soul on earth...

Within months of publishing the book, I got very sick. I believe that my soul had expanded too far beyond my physical body, and I had to pull back for an extended period of integration.

As part of my re-embrace of my human self, I birthed Conscious Girlfriend was born. The Conscious Girlfriend Academy is based on crucial human skills and knowledge: cutting-edge neuroscience, attachment theory, psychology, and relationship research. It's been life-changing for the thousands of women and non-binary people who've gone through our programs. Over these years, I've rarely been open about how much of a mystic I am, out of fear that it would alienate some people, or discredit my more left-brain work.

But now, as the last shreds of U.S. democracy brutally unravel, and human pain and damage seem more rampant and destructive than ever, I'm circling back. I feel I need to teach the Soul On Earth work, because it's the truest, deepest, most beautiful path I know.

I also believe that LGBTQ+ people have a special role to play in the earth's transformation. I've often struggled in spiritual contexts because they were so heteronormative. You won't find that in this class! Although the class is open to allies, too, I anticipate that the vast majority of members will be queer, and we can make full use of that part of our experience, and all the wounds and gifts it brings.

I deeply believe that we are living in a time when our entire understanding of power is being reshaped.
