Pierce says: We met on Silver Singles (I had never thought I would do online dating, but the Academy gave me the courage to try!) and communicated for a couple of months via text, email and video chats. The first time we met, we talked about relationship vision in depth. Although we had chemistry, we didn't do anything romantic on that first meeting.
I had already made plans to be in Mexico for two months. During that time, Laura took the Academy attachment class, while I took other classes. We visited several times a week on video and shared what we were learning. One of the classes that had a big impact on me, which I shared with Laura, was Creating a Relationship as Unique as You Are.
I knew I wanted a Conscious Girlfriend relationship, but I also knew I wasn't a complete CATCH yet. I was working on remedying that! Laura had also been working on herself for a long time, and was calling in that type of relationship.
I'd say the factors that have made our relationship work are:
We are both willing to take responsibility for our own feelings, and the life we choose to create. Discussing relationship vision from the beginning. Being aware of limerence before we even got into it, staying in it for a year (because we didn't see each other all the time), and deepening our relationship.
Laura lives in California, and I have now moved to Ajijic, Mexico. She had originally envisioned a more traditional relationship, living with or at least near a partner. But over time, we discovered advantages to living in different places. When we are together, we focus on each other, and when we're apart, she has time for her art, and I have time for community and spirituality.
We seem to co-regulate together very naturally. When one of us is triggered, overall, the other has been able to hold space for working through it with loving kindness.
We feel cared about, and loved enough that it feels safe to have the hard conversations.
We are both committed to learning and growing in our individual lives, and our relationship life.
Before being introduced to CGA, I thought relationship and ease were oxymorons. But because of this metta prayer, I opened to the possibility that I could have a relationship with ease. And we do.
